Professor Mats Stensrud, Chair of Biostatistics at EPFL, has co-authored a paper selected as a Discussion Paper by the Royal Statistical Society, a distinction reserved for work of particular novelty and importance to the society.
Discussion papers are a proud Royal Statistical Society tradition, that correspond to presenting papers of particular novelty and importance to the society. EPFL Prof. Mats Stensrud (the Chair of Biostatistics), together with collaborators Daniel Farewell, Rhian Daniel, and Anders Huitfeldt, has had their article “Regression by composition” selected as a discussion paper by the Royal Statistical Society. Discussion papers are presented and formally discussed by invited international experts, at a special meeting, normally convened for the purpose of discussing the results of said paper. The paper of Prof Stensrud develops a modular regression framework, providing a particularly attractive, both flexible and structured, approach to statistical model building and inference. The work was presented at a Royal Statistical Society meeting hosted by Imperial College London on 24 March 2026.
