Prof Lacour wins the SNSF-ERC grant
Stéphanie Lacour was awarded the prestigious SNSF Consolidator Grant for her project on Soft Bioelectronics for Bidirectional Neural Implants.
Specialized in flexible electronics based elastomers, Stéphanie Lacour (IMT/IBI) will explore the design and fabrication of soft neural implants that can be inserted in the brain. The motivation is to integrate neural implants with the host biological tissue, and to do so over extended periods of time. This challenge will require the manipulation of new kinds of materials such as adaptive polymers, and the optimisation of new fabrication processes for their integration in implantable devices. The new implants will be bidirectional, which means they can read and/or write information in the brain. They will be evaluated over the long term in animal models.
