Professor George Candea was elected to serve as Vice-chair of ACM SIGOPS by the worldwide members of the organization.

Set up in 1965 as the Special Interest Group in Operating Systems (SIGOPS) within the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), this is the premier society of researchers in the field of computer systems.

The field encompasses operating systems and their interactions with computer architecture, multiprocessing, distributed and mobile computing, networking, resource management, security, etc.

Members are drawn from a broad community spanning industry, academia, and government.

SIGOPS supports several conferences and workshops, including SOSP, EUROSYS, ASPLOS, and PODC, as well as the top journal in systems, Transactions on Computer Systems.

This is the first time a professor from Switzerland joins the leadership of ACM SIGOPS.

It is a great opportunity for Prof. Candea to help shape SIGOPS, and we wish him the best of luck in the new challenges lying ahead!
