The LHCb collaboration at CERN has elected Prof. Frédéric Blanc, Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Physics (IPHYS), as its next Physics Coordinator, for a 2-year term starting on August 1st 2024.

The LHCb collaboration currently consists of 1667 members from 98 institutes in 22 countries, and the particle physicists in Lausanne have been active in this collaboration since the early days in the 1990’s. Since the start (~ 15 year ago) of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, which delivers the highest energy collisions of protons and ions ever produced by humans, the scientific output of the LHCb collaboration consists of about 50 physics papers per year, published in peer-reviewed journals and signed by about 1'100 co-authors.

The LHCb Physics Coordinator is responsible for the organisation of the physics analysis efforts of the entire collaboration in order to ensure the best possible physics data quality and physics output. It is a central role in the organization and the election of Frédéric Blanc for this duty is a recognition of his excellent international standing in the particle physics community.
