Prof. Edgard Gnansounou
Edgard Gnansounou, an adjunct professor at EPFL and the head of the Bioenergy and Energy Planning Research Group (BPE), retired on 1 August 2022.
Edgard Gnansounou graduated from EPFL with a civil engineering degree in 1983 and a PhD in 1991, completing his thesis on energy planning. He was hired by EPFL as a lecturer in 2006 and then appointed adjunct professor in 2011.
Prof. Gnansounou began working in EPFL’s Energy Systems Laboratory (today the BPE) in 1983, and was put in charge of the lab in 2003. The BPE studies systems for incorporating renewable energy on a large scale into today’s mostly fossil-fuel-based power grids. Alongside his role as the head of BPE, Prof. Gnansounou led a number of cross-disciplinary projects in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
