May 3rd, 2017 Prof. Dr. Mario Paolone, Head of SCCER-FURIES and Head of DESL at the EPFL, was elected as a new member of the EERA Executive Committee.

The European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) is an coalition of European public research centres and universities. It represents the public research pillar of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan), which consults the European Commission on the research areas that need to be strengthened to accelerate the development of low-carbon technologies. Currently, 175 research centres and universities from 27 countries are working on 17 joint research programmes under the coordination of the EERA. These programmes include multiple fields, like Energy storage, Wind Energy, Smart Grids and Smart Cities.

As representative person of the EPFL, Prof. Paolone has been nominated as a new member of the Executive Committee of EERA and his candidacy has been approved by the General Assembly on May 3rd, 2017. This nomination will enable the EPFL to be better involved in strategic decisions on the funding of European energy-related research activities and attract visibility to the activities of the school in the field of renewable energies. As for the EERA, it will capitalise on the knowledge and experience of Prof. Paolone, especially as the Head of the SCCER-FURIES, for the definition of the future SET-Plan.
