The Swiss Physical Society (SPS) has recently published a study of the influence of Physics on the Swiss economy and society, showing that this impact is paramount.

The Swiss Physical Society (SPS) last Focus issue is dedicated to the ‘Impact of Physics on Swiss Society’. This study shows in particular that Physics-based industries play an important role in the Swiss economy and that addressing the big challenges of our time often rely on the development of new technologies derived from Physics research. It is also noted that a solid basic education in Physics is central to a functioning democracy, given the ubiquity of modern technologies. The findings are also summarised in a factsheet published by the Swiss Academy of Science.
