Christopher Criscitiello of MATH EPFL wins the Best Paper for Young Researchers Prize at the International Conference on Continuous Optimization (ICCOPT) 2022.

The Best Paper for Young Researchers Prize of the International Conference on Continuous Optimization (ICCOPT) rewards significant research contributions in the field of optimization by researchers younger than 30 years old or researchers who haven’t earned a Ph.D yet. The Conference on Continuous Optimization started in 2004 and meets every three years.

During the seventh meeting of the conference in July 2022 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA, USA, Christopher Criscitiello of the Chair of Continuous Optimization at EPFL won the award for his article entitled Negative curvature obstructs acceleration for geodesically convex optimization, even with exact first-order oracles, published in the Proceedings of Machine Learning Research (COLT 2022).

Christopher Criscitiello is currently working as a Ph.D student at EPFL in the chair of Professor Nicolas Boumal.
