Elisabetta Cornacchia, a PhD student in the Chair MDS of professor Emmanuel Abbé, won the Best Student Paper Award at the 2021 Conference in Learning Theory (COLT 2021).This conference is one of the leading conferences in the theory of machine learning.

We are very happy to announce that Elisabetta Cornacchia, a PhD student in the Chair MDS of professor Emmanuel Abbé, won the Best Student Paper Award at the 2021 Conference in Learning Theory (COLT 2021). She received this award for her paperStochastic block model entroly and broadcasting on trees with survey written in collaboration with E. Abbé, Yuzhou Gu and Yury Polyanskiy from MIT. The paper will be published in Proceedings of Thirty Fourth Conference on Learning Theory, PMLR 134:1-25.

The work uses information-theoretic techniques to make significant progress on a conjecture of discrete probability that had been posed by Mossel, Neeman and Sly in 2013.
