On Friday 22nd of June 2018, Marwa El Halabi, a PhD student at LIONS lab, successfully defended her PhD thesis. The thesis, entitled "Learning with Structured Sparity: from discrete to convex and back" was supervised by Prof. Volkan Cevher. It provides novel rigorous methods to efficiently recover sparse signals with an underlying combinatorial structure, which is needed in various machine learning and signal processing applications.
As of fall 2018, Marwa will move to the USA to take up a postdoc position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) group. Congratulations Marwa!
