WISH (Women in Science and Humanities) is a foundation created seven years ago by a group of female professors at EPFL. Their aim is to encourage research and the promotion of women on the campus. On the evening of 2nd September an event in favor of the Foundation was organized. It was dedicated to the importance of the promotion and encouragement of women in science. Every year the EPFL-WISH Foundation hosts an evening to raise awareness of how science is losing women and show case some of the remarkable research currently at the EPFL by women. Prof. Marilyne Andersen was amongst the 5 professors invited to give a lecture this year.

The evening, hosted by the Lausanne Opera with the generous support of Lombard Odier & Cie, consisted of Mezzo-Soprano Carine Séchaye's unforgettable musical performance and five scientific Pecha Kucha presentations, (20 slides x 20 seconds) where these talented women professors and student from the EPFL were able to visually communicate their research to a more general audience. They were: Prof Nicola Harris, from the Global Health Institute (GHI), Prof Marilyne Andersen, head of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Performance-Integrated Design (LIPID), Prof Anastasia Ailamaki, head of the Data-Intensive Applications and Systems Laboratory (DIAS), and Birgitte Greenwood, Masters Student in Materials Science.

A presentation of the WISH foundation and mission was given with the same Pecha Kucha format by Prof Karen Scrivener, President of the WISH Foundation and head of the Construction Materials Laboratory (LMC), and Prof Inès Lamunière, Vice-Président of the WISH Foundation and head of the Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Mobility (LAMU).
