Parametric design of transformable structures - VUB

Jan Brütting is invited to present the ongoing research initiatives of the Structural Xploration Lab in the Master course “Parametric design of transformable structures” taught by Prof. Niels de Temmerman at the Architectural Engineering department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. The presentation ranges from the design and construction of the SXL ski gridshell in 2017 to the case studies of structures made of reused elements that were designed via recently developed computational tools.

This presentation is part of the research exchange that Jan currently carries out with the support of EPFL’s EDCE PhD Mobility Award. Together with researchers at the VUB, Jan is applying his developed computational tools to realistic scenarios and case studies with the aim to quantify the benefits of reuse, for instance the reduction of environmental impacts.
