The Laboratory of Olaf Blanke at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) is currently looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to one of our core research topics: the brain mechanisms of consciousness and its link to multisensory bodily perception and the self.

Project

The project is part of a larger initiative that we have recently launched aimed at integrating electrophysiological methods (single cell recordings, local field potentials, high-density EEG) and state-of-the-art virtual reality technology with neurosurgically-implanted electrodes in human participants. The project is carried out jointly between the Blanke Lab at EPFL and with our long-term clinical research partner, the Rockefeller Neuroscience Center at West Virginia University (US). The researcher will be based at EPFL’s Campus Biotech in Geneva (with the Blanke Lab) for 75% of the time and at West Virginia University (WVU) Hospital (with Professor Ali Rezai’s group) for the recordings for 25% of the time. Salary will be based on EPFL postdoc salary.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will develop and carry out their own research projects and also supervise and coordinate other ongoing electrophysiological studies of the Blanke Lab at WVU. This will include study conception, paradigm development, data collection, data analysis, as well as administrative aspects of the project.

Qualifications

We are looking for a positive, committed person with strong prior experience in invasive electrophysiological recordings in humans. The ideal candidate has excellent skills in signal processing and data analysis, including single unit analysis. Experience in computational modeling of behavioral or neural data is a plus. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (e.g. neuroscience, biology, engineering, psychology or equivalent fields).

Applications

Applications and any inquiries should be sent to Oliver Kannape (oliver.kannape_at_epfl.ch) and include a CV, publication list, a 3-minute video stating motivations and qualifications, as well as contact details of two referees.
