A course for doctoral candidates with no prior medical training, organised by the Institute of Global Health (University of Geneva) and HUG (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève)
The "One Week Medical School" is an intensive, innovative and participative week-long course designed to introduce non-clinical healthcare professionals (e.g. administrative staff in public hospitals or private clinics) and doctoral students from various fields to different medical specialities through lectures, clinical case studies, practical exercises and shadowing at Geneva University Hospitals.
There are two main objectives for the week:
- to provide an overview of several medical disciplines (e.g. endocrinology, neurology, cardiology, psychiatry, general internal medicine).
- to provide an understanding of the learning mechanisms used and developed during medical studies.
The course is structured into 3 parts:
- 45-minute theory classes
- an afternoon of practical workshops with a simulated patient and mannequin
- a morning of shadowing at the HUG (shadowing a physician in his or her daily practice)
