One more candidacy passed at LAMD - Congrats Emanuele

Congratulations to Emanuele, who passed his candidacy exam last November.
Emanuele is working on the modelling of tilting pad gas lubricated bearings. This device allows for rotating machines like turbo-compressors to spin at extremely high speed, with better stability characteristics with respect to traditional gas lubricated bearings.
His thesis will focus on a first part in investigating the device, with a more comprehensive modelling technique with respect to the existing ones, and in a later part he will use the obtained knowledge to experimentally validate the models and develop guidelines on the design of tilting pad bearings. In parallel, he will develop a tilting pad supported compressor-turbine unit to be utilized in a CO2 capture unit that will be installed at a waste incineration plant, in order to separate the carbon dioxide from the industrial burnt gasses.
