Nikolas Geroliminis Appointed Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

At its meeting on July 8-9 2009, the Board of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology appointed Nikolas Geroliminis a tenure-track assistant professor of transportation engineering at the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Most of Nikolas Geroliminis’ research focuses on traffic operations and urban systems. He helped to develop an incident management system to provide roadside assistance for vehicle breakdowns and prevent traffic jams during rush hours. He also designed a model for locating vehicles experiencing emergencies in urban networks. This research was the basis on which an analytical tool for the California Freeway Service Patrol was created.

A Greek citizen, Nikolas Geroliminis was born in 1980. He earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in transportation engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. Following a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering, he completed a doctorate at University of California at Berkeley. Since that time until his recent appointment at EPFL, he was a tenure-track assistant professor in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Civil Engineering.
