The chair of Policy and Sustainability of Prof. Michaël Aklin has received funding from the SNSF to launch a 4 year project entitled "Managing a just transition to Net-Zero." The project will assess job market vulnerabilities to the clean energy transition in Europe and beyond, as well as policy solutions to mitigate them.

About the research

This project addresses the challenge of the clean energy transition from the perspective of the labor market. Recent studies have highlighted the negative consequences of poorly managed energy transitions, such as increased support for extremist political candidates. This calls for a ‘just transition,’ that is, a transition that takes into consideration the individuals negatively a!ected by such a shift, including workers whose livelihoods rely on a carbon-based economy. This project draws on two specific areas of research: (1) studies focusing on vulnerabilities within the labor market, and (2) research on policies designed to mitigate threats at the individual and local levels resulting from the transition to clean energy.
