New SNF research grant for Prof. Anu Wadhwa

Anu Wadhwa
Prof. Anu Wadhwa has been awarded a grant by the SNF to study uncertainty in the venture capital investments practices in the cleantech sector.
Professor Anu Wadhwa has been awarded a Swiss National Science Foundation research grant to study the link between uncertainty and venture capital (VC) investment practices in nascent and emerging industrial sectors. This research will focus specifically on the emerging clean energy sector. Despite considerable uncertainty in this sector and signs that there may be mismatch between VC investment philosophy and the clean energy reality, the last few years have witnessed a sudden spur in VC investments in clean energy startups. This surprising development signals a need to better understand the decision-making processes at play as well as patterns of VC investment in this sector. This study will empirically investigate how exogenous and endogenous uncertainty shape venture capitalists’ diversification strategies in clean energy subsectors and the consequences thereof.
