New SHS-MGT course: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Starting in September, EPFL Bachelor students can discover the new SHS-MGT courses in Management & Finance. One of the course offered will be an introduction to entrepreneurship. Learn more about it from the teachers, Dr. Foy.
- Can you give a short description of the content of the course?
The course follows the entrepreneurial process, starting with idea generation, opportunity evaluation, venture team formation, and moves into the fundamentals of building and validating a business model, developing a market entry strategy, acquiring the capital needed to launch and building out an operational plan. We are always tailoring content to fit the interests and curiosities of students in a given class.
- Why should a student follow this course?
The ability to identify and evaluate opportunities, and to develop and pitch your ideas will give you a leg up throughout your career, whether you’re working as an engineer in a large organization, or starting your own venture. No matter what you do next, you’ll walk away from this class with valuable new skills and perspective.
- What style of teaching will it be?
In Fall 2020, you will have short lectures (think less than 20 minutes), articles, videos, and blog posts—all available online to equip you with new entrepreneurship concepts and theory each week. Your in-class time will be dedicated to guided workshops with personalized feedback from instructors as you develop a new venture concept in teams. You’ll form your own teams through a process that encourages diverse skillsets, but a unified vision of the world and your venturing goals! (We’ve had student teams actually launch their businesses while taking this course, but this is not required.)
