At the recent call of SFOE Grid program, 7 out of 9 approved projects were from SCCER-FURIES partners. This summer series of news will be dedicated to the short description of these projects.

Project partner: EPFL Lausanne (F. Rachidi), Streamer AG (A. Codino), GroupeE

Project duration: 01.10.2018–30.09.2020

SFOE funding: CHF 280’000

Description: The objective of our research project is to develop an enhanced fault location algorithm based on the electromagnetic time reversal theory. The classical time reversal method requires numerous simulations varying the positions of the fault along the network. In this project, we propose to make use of the concept of time reversal in mismatched media in the objective of getting rid of the multiple simulations needed in the classical method. The objective being ultimately to be able to locate the fault with only one simulation. The main outcome of the project will be therefore the development of a novel fault location algorithm with improved performance in terms of computation time and fault location accuracy. The performance characteristics of the developed method will be tested versus numerical simulations and experimental measurements obtained on real distribution networks.
