The prices of meals in EPFL restaurants and cafeterias will increase by 8% for students and 10% for employees starting on Monday, 19 September.

Our restaurants and cafeterias have experienced significant cost increases for their raw materials this year, with the prices of fruit, vegetables and meat all rising by some 9%. This comes on top of other cost increases arising from ongoing geopolitical events. Energy, packaging, shipping and labor (owing to a shortage of workers in the industry) are all significantly more expensive.

In light of these unprecedented circumstances, the EPFL Direction has approved a limited increase in the prices of meals at our campus restaurants and cafeterias, based on recommendations from our food-services committee. The price increases are as follows:

  • 8% for EPFL students
  • 10% for EPFL employees
  • 10% for catering orders for EPFL events
  • 13% for campus visitors

For example, the price of the lowest-cost meal will rise from CHF 5.50 to CHF 5.95 for students and from CHF 10.00 to CHF 11.00 for employees.

The new prices will go into effect on Monday, 19 September 2022, and remain valid until 31 August 2024. At that point, we will review the possibility of making further changes to the prices.
