Giuseppe Peronato and Jean-Denis Thiry joined forces with the LIPID team on Monday September 1st 2014. They are both registered at the doctoral school EDAR Architecture & Sciences of the City.
Giuseppe graduated cum laude from the Università Iuav di Venezia (Italy) with a Master’s degree in Architecture. His thesis, entitled “Built density, solar potential and daylighting : application of parametric studies and performance simulation tools in urban design”, was partially developed during a previous stay at LIPID. For his doctoral research, he will work on the implementation of solar energy production systems in the design process at the urban scale, with reference to both technical (planning support and energy potential analysis) and architectural (integration to buildings’ morphological and constructive features) aspects.
Jean-Denis holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium (2012). His master’s thesis “The lighting mechanisms in the architecture of Alvar Aalto’s libraries” was awarded the IBE-BIV prize for the best Belgian master’s thesis in the field of lighting. His research in architecture, daylight, well-being and health is also supported by a Wallonie-Bruxelles International Excellence Fellowship (WBI) and a Christian Leleux research fellowship from UCL (2014). Jean-Denis’ current research explores the conception and design process of architectural spaces which can improve human health and well-being, based on recent findings in photobiology (the non-visual effects of light), by using simulation-based and real-world analyses of different building typologies.
