Steffen Hartmeyer joined forces with the LIPID team on September 15, 2020. He is registered in the Doctoral Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering (EDCE).

Before joining LIPID, Steffen studied Cognitive Science at the Osnabrueck University and Human-Technology Interaction at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where amongst other things he investigated the effects of a personal lighting intervention on sleep and alertness in nightshift nurses.

In his PhD project, as part of the LIGHTCAP initiative, he will investigate the importance of non-image forming (NIF) effects of light in daily living and, more specifically, how light exposure patterns found in the built environment influence the neurophysiological response of its occupants, notably alertness, sleep and circadian phase synchronization. With this project he is interested in laying the groundwork for health-promoting lighting interventions and designs that have a strong real-world applicability and user acceptance.
