New member at LSMS
We are pleased to welcome Dr Lucas Fourel, who joined the LSMS on November 1st.
He graduated from INSA Lyon, France, with a M.S. in 2020 and a Ph.D. in Contact Mechanics in 2023.
A few questions to Lucas:
What is your field of research?
My research at LSMS will involve the development of a 3D numerical model for hydroelectric dams. Cracking can occur when concrete is exposed to water, and the numerical model will help understand this issue and evaluate safety.
Why did you choose this field and what are you particularly enthusiastic about it?
Hydroelectric power is crucial in the current environmental and geopolitical context. Particularly in Switzerland, where it is the main source of electricity. Contributing to the safety and durability of dams is very motivating for me. I am also very enthusiastic about using the numerical tools developed at EPFL and learning from all the team members.
Outside the lab, what do you enjoy doing most?
Outside the lab, I enjoy spending time with friends and family doing outdoor activities or discussing various topics such as music and sports. My next goal is to discover Switzerland!
