To offer students high quality training in a field that is fast becoming one of the most important technological frontiers, EPFL is launching a new Master’s program in Quantum Science and Engineering, which will begin in September 2022.

In the last two decades, there has been amazing progress in the development of quantum computers and algorithms, and quantum communications and sensing. Quantum technologies now are being adopted by a very wide spectrum of industries, such as IT, pharmaceuticals, finance, and agriculture, leading us toward a major technological revolution that will have immense benefits for society.

EPFL is a world-leading institution in the domain of quantum science, producing cutting-edge advances from dozens of laboratories, who work under the aegis of the Center for Quantum Science and Engineering (QSE). To train the next generation of leading quantum engineers, EPFL is launching a new Master’s program in Quantum Science and Engineering.

This program will offer exceptional students from around the world the unique opportunity to engage in multidisciplinary, high-level training in the emerging field of quantum science. Quantum Science and Engineering Master’s students will have the opportunity to work closely with various research laboratories across disciplines in such fields as computer science, physics, mathematics, chemistry, and engineering, giving them the skills and knowledge to become future leaders in the quantum revolution.

“Quantum technologies are an inherently multidisciplinary endeavor, requiring competencies in basic sciences, computer science and engineering,” says Vincenzo Savona, the Academic Director of the QSE Center. “The new EPFL Master’s program in Quantum Science and Engineering is conceived to provide students with this special training profile, through a unique blend of courses taught by our leading scientists in the Schools of Basic Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering. It will be an amazing opportunity for outstanding students to become leaders of the quantum revolution.”

Along with the Master's program, EPFL will also offer a minor in Quantum Science and Engineering, allowing students in other Master's programs to acquire knowledge and skills in quantum science and engineering as well.
