Gaël Hurlimann has been appointed EPFL’s next communications director, as of 1 May 2022. He will take over for Mirko Bischofberger, who will leave EPFL at the end of March.

Gaël Hurlimann has a successful career in the media sector. He was the editor-in-chief of digital content for Le Temps and, more recently, served as the head of subscriptions for Blick Group as part of Ringier’s Global Media unit. In addition to his expertise in the media – and digital media in particular – Gaël has also worked in event organization, including the Forum des 100, and in institutional communications. In this latter field he was the head of digital communications at the ICRC, where he managed content in seven different languages and oversaw a group of professionals spanning the globe.

EPFL wishes to sincerely thank Mirko for his contributions. After more than three intense years, Mirko has decided to embark on the next phase of his career, return to Zurich – the city that’s near and dear to his heart – and spend more time with his family. While at EPFL, Mirko, together with the Mediacom teams, rolled out EPFL’s new logo, helped commemorate the School’s 50th anniversary (in part by creating a supplement for NZZ and Le Temps), introduced the Campus Lecture series, revamped the EPFL magazine, launched our School’s Wikipedia project and developed an effective digital communication strategy that also encompassed events. The visual communications team that he created helped him meet these objectives. He also added German to the languages in which EPFL communicates, thereby giving EPFL more visibility in the German-speaking part of Switzerland than it has had in years.

Corinne Feuz, the deputy head of Mediacom, has agreed to act as interim communications director in April, between Mirko’s departure and Gaël’s arrival.
