The University of St.Gallen, through its Centro Latinoamericano-Suizo (CLS-HSG), has been mandated by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), to act as Leading House granting incentives and developing joint research cooperation programs with the Latin American region.

The goal of the Seed Money Grants is to strengthen or initiate scientific exchanges between Swiss and Latin American researchers and institutions in all disciplinary areas by enabling them to jointly undertake preliminary research or organize workshops. Seed Money Grants are particularly useful to develop joint project proposals to be submitted to large funding agencies (National Science Foundations in Latin America and Switzerland, and EU funding schemes) or to combine already existing and independently funded projects in Switzerland and the partner countries in order to create long lasting cooperation.

For the period 2017-2020, the Leading House will consolidate partnerships with priority countries according to past activities of the programme (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru) and also support new cooperation endeavours with potential parters in the region. Therefore, the Leading House opens the call to all Latin American countries and invites Swiss researchers to propose projects that promote collaborative, interdisciplinary and comparative research involving partners also in more than one Latin American country.
