Nergiz Sahin Solmaz, who received her PhD from EPFL’s doctoral program in Microsystems and Microelectronics, has been awarded the Raymond Andrew Prize by the magnetic resonance society Groupement AMPERE at EUROMAR 2025.

She received the prize in recognition of her doctoral thesis, “Single-Chip Dynamic Nuclear Polarization Microsystems”. The prize is awarded by Groupement AMPERE to young scientists for an outstanding PhD thesis in magnetic resonance, honoring the pioneering work of Prof. Dr. Raymond Andrew.

Nergiz completed her PhD at the Microsystems Laboratory (LMIS1) in 2023 under the supervision of Giovanni Boero. Her research on single-chip dynamic nuclear polarization has advanced detection limits and miniaturization by co-integrating ESR and NMR detectors on a single silicon chip for the first time — an achievement that paves the way to democratize this technology and broaden its accessibility.
