In June 2017, Sustainable Campus deployed three electric cargobikes in self-service on EPFL campus, the first ones in Switzerland. After one year, the results are extremely positive with more than 10'000 km covered in total and more than 300 registered users.

These bikes are particularly appreciated for their versatility, especially for moving laboratory equipment or organizing events. In order to meet the high demand, four additional cargobikes will be made available this Wednesday at Av. Forel (BS), at Ch. des machines (ME), at the Diagonale (MXC) and at the EPFL Innovation Park (QIH).

As a reminder, these bikes can be borrowed free of charge by students and staff for a maximum of 48 hours. They represent an alternative to the car for the transport of heavy and bulky items. They are equipped with a battery offering a range of 60-70km and electric assistance up to 25km/h that can carry up to 100kg of loads.

Their use is possible via a smartphone application, in collaboration with the Danish start-up Donkey Republic. A simple Bluetooth connection is then enough to reserve a bike, unlock the lock and finish the loan.

Bicycle cargo locations and more information are available on the EPFL Sustainable Campus website.
