Michael Saliba listed in MIT TechReview “Innovators under 35”
Dr Michael Saliba has been included in the TR35, an annual list of the world’s top 35 Innovators under 35 compiled by the MIT Technology Review.
The prestigious TR35 is a list published yearly by the MIT Technology Review acknowledging the “Top 35 Innovators under the Age of 35”, as selected by a panel of international expert judges. The list consists of several subcategories focusing on biomedicine, computing, communications, business, energy, materials, and the Internet. The TR35 award honors “accomplishments that are poised to have a dramatic impact on the world as we know it.” Past honorees include Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the co-founders of Google; Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook; and Jonathan Ive, the chief designer of Apple.
This year, the global edition of the TR35 has included Dr Michael Saliba, a Marie Curie Fellow in the Laboratory for Photonics and Interfaces at EPFL, who was also included in the 2017 German edition of the list.
Saliba is being recognized for his groundbreaking work on inexpensive, stable and highly efficient perovskite solar cells contributing towards a sustainable energy future for the generations to come. In 2016, he published a paper in Science showing that integrating rubidium stabilizes perovskite solar cells while pushing their power-conversion efficiency to 21.6%. Shortly after, he won the Young Scientist Award of the Year from the Deutscher Hochschulverband.
“I am very delighted to receive this prestigious award,” says Saliba. “The people on the Innovators under 35 list are doing amazing work and I am honored to join this amazing group of pioneers and innovators who are changing the world with their creative technologies.”
“Over the years, we’ve had success in recognizing young innovators whose will change how the world thinks about what technology can do” says editor David Rotman. “We’re proud of our selections and the variety of achievements they celebrate, and we’re proud to add Michael Saliba to this prestigious list.”
This year’s honorees are featured online and in the September/October print magazine published worldwide from August 29. They will also join the upcoming EmTech MIT conference November 6–9 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
