Bertrand Vignal, partner of the landscape designer firm BASE, was the guest of Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST). Entitled “Mesological experiments”, his lecture allowed students to understand the main challenges of these constantly changing territories and to discover several projects developed by the agency along the Rhône.

Based in Paris, Lyon, and Bordeaux, the BASE agency brings together landscapers, architects, and engineers around three landscape designer partners - Franck Poirier, Bertrand Vignal, and Clément Willemin - from the École nationale supérieure de paysage de Versailles.

Illustrating the agency's creative approach, the conference focused on landscaping related to the dynamics of the 3rd Rhône river correction, the “Champ de la Confluence” project at the tip of the Lyon peninsula, and the transformation of the industrial territories of the chemical valley within the Lyon Metropolis.

Resonating with the issues addressed in the RHODANIE URBAINE studio, these multiple approaches made it possible to put into perspective the issues of landscape interpretation, formulation of narratives at the territorial level, and development of forward-looking visions and innovative processes for the transformation of urban territories in transition.
