Melanie Blokesch has been elected as a member of the European Academy of Microbiology (EAM).

The EAM was established in 2007 as an initiative of the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) and aims at amplifying the impact of microbiology in Europe. The Academy elects its members through a highly selective process. Membership criteria are based on research track record and original contributions to the field of microbiology.

The EAM has now elected Professor Melanie Blokesch at EPFL as a new academy member. Professor Blokesch is internationally known for her research on the pathoecology of the cholera-causing bacterium Vibrio cholerae.

“This was such a pleasant surprise when they informed me that I was elected into the EAM," says Professor Blokesch. "I am deeply honored. And I’ll be delighted to help promote microbiology in Europe and beyond.”
