Meet the ReO members! Episode 6 - Pascale Menu
Meet the ReO members! is a new series aimed at introducing the EPFL Research Office members. Meet Pascale Menu, Head of the European Funding Team, in the sixth episode!
How would you describe yourself in a few words?
My name is Pascale and I am the leader of the European Funding Team at the Research Office. I arrived at EPFL many years ago and have been in my current position since 2018.
What has been your career path?
After a scientific Baccalaureate in France, I obtained an EPFL engineering degree in Materials Science, followed by a PhD in technical sciences. I was then active in technology transfer and it was a combination of circumstances that led me to work on European projects at EPFL. First in Alliance, then in the Research Office as Programme Manager, and later as leader of the EU team.
What does a "Team Leader" do at the EPFL Research Office?
My team deals with EU projects from informing the campus (emails, newsletter, events), helping to prepare and submit proposals, signing contracts and helping to monitor the implementation of projects.
What is driving you in your job?
Every day is different. We work with people from so many different backgrounds and cultures. This is a real asset. We are a campus service, and this notion of service is very important to me. I particularly appreciate the good relationships we have within the REO.
What are the main challenges you are facing on a daily basis?
A lot of our work cannot be planned, as we are dependent on the demands of the researchers and the administrative assistants. In these moments of overload, we have to reconsider priorities while providing the best possible service to the campus.
Outside EPFL, what do you enjoy doing the most?
I like to take advantage of the opportunities that the region offers in summer and winter (skiing, hiking, etc.). Throughout the year, it is scuba diving that allows me to recharge my batteries.
What are your life and/or career aspirations?
You have to appreciate every moment and enjoy the present.
