Masato passes his candidacy exam

We are pleased to announce that Masato has successfully completed this stage of his research.

Masato's study investigates the development of control methods that incorporate psychological factors into Haptic Shared Control (HSC), with the aim of enabling effective teaming between humans and automated driving systems. Particular emphasis is placed on trust as a critical factor in Human–Autonomy Teaming (HAT), as it shapes users’ willingness to accept and collaborate with automation.

To address this, the study first examines how trust is formed and evolves during continuous human–automation interaction. It integrates self-report measures, physiological signals, and behavioral metrics to evaluate trust under existing control schemes and to identify the factors influencing it. Building on these findings, the study then develops a trust estimation method using sensors suitable for real-world applications, and proposes a trust calibration strategy that adjusts system intervention according to the estimated trust state.
