Former LQM PhD Student Martin Mourigal lands tenure-track appointment at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta (USA).

After a Master in Physics at EPFL and a PhD at LQM jointly with the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, Martin spent three years as a postdoc at the Institute for Quantum Matter led by Collin Broholm at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Martin will start his own research group combining materials synthesis, neutron scattering at facilities such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, data analysis and theory to explore novel magnetic and electronic states of quantum matter. Visit mourigal.gatech.edu for more information on Martin’s research group. Martin: “The diversity of skills I acquired at LQM combined with the freedom to choose my research endeavors prepared me perfectly to start my independent career.”

Slightly oversimplifying an impressive trajectory, Martin performed a Master in theoretical physics, a PhD in experimental physics, and with his postdoc in the institute for Quantum Matter he engaged in materials discovery - is there nothing he can't do? Martin remains a close collaborator on several projects within LQM and we wish him a successful start to this next chapter in his career.
