IC Professors Mark Pauly and Wenzel Jakob received two of the highly distinguished European Association for Computer Graphics’ Awards at the 2016 Eurographics Annual Conference in Lisbon Portugal, this May.
Associate Professor Mark Pauly, of the Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory, received the EG Outstanding Technical Contributions Award 2016 on the basis of his outstanding research on the processing of point clouds as well as for several highly-cited papers on sampling, modeling, and interactive design of point-based geometry.
Mark Pauly’s very wide scope of research interests spanning from computational design and fabrication, to architectural geometry and human performance capture, were among the highlighted selection criteria. The EG news release describes Pauly as “an exceptional researcher with a high international reputation and a continuous track of pioneering papers.”
Tenure-track Assistant Professor Wenzel Jakob, of the Realistic Graphics Laboratory, received the EG Young Researcher Award 2016. Wenzel was recognized for his contribution to research topics ranging from the efficient simulation of global light transport and volumetric scattering, to the modeling and rendering of the appearance of highly complex materials as well as the generation of quad meshes.
“Wenzel Jakob has developed and applied intricate mathematical models with solid theoretical foundation,” states the EG news release. “At an early stage of his career, he has already made substantial technical contributions and published them prominently.”
“Both Mark Pauly and Wenzel Jakob are highly talented researchers who produce great academic research and considerable industrial interest. This award is a well-deserved recognition of their extraordinary commitment and hard work. I am happy to congratulate Mark and Wenzel for this great achievement,” said IC Dean James Larus.
The Eurographics Awards are given to individuals who have significantly advanced research in the field of computer graphics at the EG Annual Conference, which brings together graphics experts from around the world to discuss the latest developments in this exciting field.
