Mapping Just Transitions in Nationally Determined Contributions

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has released a report, to which Anaëlle Touré and Prof. Michaël Aklin have contributed, on the critical integration of just transition principles into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The transition to environmentally sustainable economies is not just an ecological imperative but also a social and economic necessity. Ensuring that this transition is just and inclusive is crucial for achieving climate goals while promoting social justice and sustainable development. NDCs serve as a pivotal framework for embedding just transition principles into climate action. This report delves into how just transition considerations have been incorporated into NDCs, providing a comprehensive mapping of key terms and concepts. By analyzing the uptake of these elements, the report aims to inform policymakers, social partners, and the public on the current state of just transition commitments and guide future efforts to enhance these provisions in climate policy.
