Lucerne Talks : « On Collaborations » Symposium for architectural pedagogy
Friday, 21 November 2025 / HSLLU

We are pleased to invite you to the 6th edition of the Lucerne Talks Symposium "On Collaborations” on Friday, 21 November, followed by a book launch of the 5th edition “Teaching Urbanism” and a collective dinner.

On this day, we will discuss the potential of collaboration in architectural education and research through two guiding questions:
1. What is the role of collaboration in architecture education and research?
2. In what way can we collaborate with each other in architecture education and research to reconnect to society?

We invite experts who, in various ways, contribute exemplary approaches, methods, and insights to professional practice, teaching, and research, both within and beyond their own fields. Collaborations arise from shared interests and goals, yet they are never free of conflict. Architecture can emerge neither without collective organisation nor without individual commitment. What defines collaborative work, and where do its limits lie?

Architecture is a collective endeavour, shaped by negotiation, coincidence, tension, and synergy. Collaboration is essential: we depend on our ability to work well together. In architecture, diverse interests constantly intersect and must be negotiated. Roles are in continuous motion – shifting between internal and external perspectives, between knowing and not knowing, between generalist and specialist knowledge, and between aspiration and reality. The challenges of the built environment demand increasingly complex collaboration with experts from other disciplines – each with their own tools, planning cultures, and objectives. What shared language and vocabulary can we develop to think beyond disciplinary boundaries? What craft and knowledge are required? And how can such a culture of collaboration become rooted in architectural education and research?
