Lorenz obtained his Bachelor’s degrees in both Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. For his undergraduate thesis, he worked to genetically engineer a biofuels crop to enhance oil yields for use in U.S. Navy jet engines. He then worked for two years at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) where he helped develop separation trains for the purification of carboxylic acids from biomass-fed fermentations. Welcome Lorenz!
