Li Tang, head of the Laboratory of Biomaterials for Immunoengineering in the School of Engineering, has received the 2025 Biomaterials Science Lectureship from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The Royal Society of Chemistry Biomaterials Science Lectureship is presented annually to early career researchers to recognize their significant contributions to the field of biomaterials. The honor includes an invitation to contribute an article to Biomaterials Science and receive a complimentary cover for the issue in which the article appears, as well as £1,000 to cover travel and accommodation costs to attend and present at a leading international meeting.

Li Tang received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Peking University, China, in 2007, and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, in 2012, under the supervision of Jianjun Cheng. He was a CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Darrell Irvine at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2013-2016.

He joined EPFL as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering in 2016, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. His work in the Laboratory of Biomaterials for Immunoengineering focuses on developing multidimensional immunoengineering approaches for enhanced cancer immunotherapies. In the School of Life Sciences, he also serves as Associate Dean for Innovation and Director of Innovate4Life program.

Tang is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Friedrich Miescher Award (2025) and the Leenaards Prize for Translational Medical Research (2025), and was named in the MIT Technology Review’s "Top 35 Innovators under Age 35" list of China region (2020).
