BIOGRAPHY
Originally from Corban, Jura (Switzerland), born in 1948, RS received his degree in physical engineering from EPFL in 1974, and a PhD in 1980. From 1982 to 1986, he was assistant to the director of Physics department at EPFL and then from 2002 to 2013, he was assistant-director of the Physics section. In 1985, he was named person in charge for the physics of materials, general physics and mechanics courses, and also the practical works in physics from 1990 to 2013. He was conducting research in physics of materials in the following domains: precipitation and recrystallization of aluminum alloys, elasticity and anelasticity of ceramic materials at high temperatures, transformations of displacive phases without diffusion, anelastic properties of superconductors, fragilization of Ni-20%Cr alloys at high temperature and several other domains. He supervised or co-supervised 22 PhD theses and is author or coauthor of 232 scientific publications. From 2005 to 2008 he was director of the doctoral program in physics and served as a president of 74 theses committees. Since 2005 he is adjunct professor at EPFL.
