Lana Josipovic has been awarded the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2015. Lana, who has just begun her doctoral studies at the IC School, is one of the two scholars representing a Swiss institution out of 40 women who benefited from the scholarship this year.

The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship was developed to encourage women who excel in computing and technology, with the aim of promoting women as active role models and leaders in the field. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of a strong academic background, a passion for supporting the involvement of women in computer science as well as demonstrated leadership.

As part of this year’s programme, the recipients were invited to a scholars’ retreat, which took place at the Google offices in London this past June. During the retreat, the recipients had the opportunity to take part in discussions alongside their counterparts working at Google on the challenges of balancing both stimulating careers in computer science and having families.

“It was inspiring to talk to these professionals and to hear about their experiences,” says Lana Josipovic. “The objective of the retreat was to develop projects to increase the number of women in the field by demonstrating its high potential in equal career opportunities and to encourage them in getting more involved in the core study of computer science.”
