ESO paper wins the first ISPRS Fritz Ackermann Award

We are pleased to announce that the paper titled "Airborne sensor fusion: Expected accuracy and behavior of a concurrent adjustment", published in the ISPRS Open Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, received the ISPRS Fritz Ackermann Award at the XXV ISPRS Congress 2026 in Toronto, Canada. After being named the journal's best paper of the year 2024, it was selected as the overall winner of this inaugural award, which honours the most significant contribution published in the journal over 2021–2025 period.

The paper, co-authored by Kyriaki Mouzakidou, Aurélien Brun, Davide Antonio Cucci and Jan Skaloud, studies the expected accuracy of tightly-coupled sensor orientation. In this approach, GNSS, raw inertial, image and LiDAR observations are processed together in a large single adjustment, which allows to mitigate better the imperfections in sensors and to improve the quality of remote sensing products as lidar point-cloud, orthorectified image, etc.Congratulations to the authors on this remarkable achievement!
