Bipolar disorders: From diagnosis to vulnerability markers

Bipolar disorders are long-term diseases, usually starting at the end of adolescence; they are often difficult to diagnose and treat. Significant advances have been made in the past years to improve the detection and prevention of recurrences with pharmacotherapy and psychological approaches such as psychoeducation. However, there is still a need to identify endophenotypes or markers of vulnerability, in order to allow a better identification of potential disease-prone subjects as well as treatment options.
