Or how to take advantage of daylighting in contemporary buildings and especially in offices.

Marilyne Andersen, associate professor at EPFL since September 2010, is currently working with HULIC , a Japanese real estate development company, on their future general headquarters in Tokyo in view of finding means of bringing daylight deep into office spaces. An article (in French) published in the ‘Habitat’ supplement of the magazine Hebdo on March 10th, 2011 presents an overview of the project and describes the technology developed by Professor Andersen and her Master’s student from MIT, Kevin Thuot. The challenge resides in the ability to illuminate spaces beyond 10 meters in depth without creating any glare, that works both in sunny and overcast conditions, and that respects the constraints of a curtain wall façade for this 10-storey building.
