At the occasion of the EPFL Graduation ceremony on October 3, nine graduates were awarded the IDEAS Minor. Originally created by the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) and the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Performance-Integrated Design (LIPID), this Master’s-level programme aims to strengthen the integration of sustainability and interdisciplinarity within ENAC. Since its creation, more than one hundred students have followed this path.

Today, the transition towards greater sustainability plays a key role in addressing issues related to the built environment. In the context of the climate emergency, these challenges are central to research and practice in architecture and environmental engineering. In response to these challenges, the Interdisciplinary Minor in Integrated Design, Architecture and Sustainability (IDEAS) offers a specifically structured selection of courses for students at the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC).

The IDEAS Minor comprises 23 courses offered across the two semesters and selected from the existing course catalogue. This selection combines theoretical courses with project-based teaching. The Minor requires the completion of 30 ECTS credits during the Master’s programme. Its core approach is grounded in the principles of sustainable architecture, with particular emphasis on the efficient use of resources, achieving comfort primarily through passive means, and taking climatic specificities into account within the broader perspective of a decarbonised society.

Among the nine students awarded the IDEAS Minor in 2026, Florian Faucheur, Nadège Mouine, Felix Pleines, Maxime Reol, Cyril Udriot, Julie Varupenne, Juliette Vincent and Bénédict Wasserfallen were from the Architecture section (SAR), while Jeanne Charlot was from the Materials Science and Engineering section (MX).
