IDEAS Lecture | 10th October 2014

Dominique CHUARD will be the speaker of the next IDEAS lecture, entitled "2000 Watts society: a concrete application". It will take place on Friday 10th October 2014 at 1:15 pm in room AAC 020 (Building SG).

The axis Integrated Design, Architecture and Sustainability (IDEAS) is a joint initiative of both the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Performance-Integrated Design (LIPID) and Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) of the ENAC School at EPFL. It aims to address an increased integration of the various issues related to sustainable architecture within the framework of the Master Cycle in Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as the Doctoral program Architecture & Science of the city (EDAR).

This lecture takes part in the UE K | IDEAS Module 2 program "Towards Solar Decathlon". It will cover the "2000 Watts society" concept, as well as global balances including embodied energy, operating energy and mobility energy.

Dominique CHUARD is architect, graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). After several internships in different parts of Africa, he focuses his studies on the adaptation of buildings to the climate. In 1978, he is one of the co-founders of Sorane, a company active in the fields of energy and buildings. He develops more specifically counseling for architecture offices: development of energy concepts for large buildings, natural lighting, natural ventilation, sunlight control, microclimate integration, building physics. Dominique CHUARD has also participated to international and national research and teaching programs, and works in the field of conservation of historic monuments (federal expert in building physics). He is currently partner at Effin’Art.
