Dr Christian Louter (ICOM) and Prof. Alain Nussbaumer (ICOM) have launched a new MSc course on Glass Structures & Facades.

The Glass Structures & Facades course is the first course at EPFL-ENAC that specifically focuses on the application of glass as a structural material in buildings. With nearly 60 participating students, the course is received with great interest and enthusiasm.

The course is provided by ICOM (Dr Christian Louter and Prof Alain Nussbaumer) and discusses glass at multiple scale levels, ranging from glass material strength, via structural glass connections, to the application of structural glass components in complex structures and facades. In addition, guest lectures from LIPID on daylighting strategies (provided by Dr Jan Wienold), from LESO on solar collector systems (provided by Dr Maria Cristina Munari Probst), and from facade engineering company Permasteelisa (Mr. Nebojša Buljan) are integrated in the course. Finally, excursions to Glas Trösch (glass company) and Félix Constructions (facade engineering company) complement the course program.
