IC School celebrates its researchers
Three IC researchers, a doctoral student and two alumni, have been recognized for the quality of their research. Vasileios Trigonakis, Immanel Trummer and James Newling were all awarded during recent scientific conferences.
The 2017 Eurosys Roger Needham Doctoral Dissertation Award was given to Vasileios Trigonakis for his exceptional thesis “Towards Scalable Synchronization on Multi-Cores,” elaborated under the guidance of Professor Rachid Guerraoui of the Distributed Programming Laboratory at the Eurosys 2017 Conference in Belgrade, Serbia. Vasileios Trigonakis is currently working for Oracle Laboratories.
Immanuel Trummer’s doctoral dissertation “From Massive Parallelization toQuantum Computing: Seven Novel Approaches to Query Optimization,” written under the supervision of Professor Christoph Koch, received an Honorable Mention for the SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation Award. Immanuel Trummer is currently an assistant professor for computer science at Cornell University.
James Newling, an IC doctoral student, received the Best Paper Award at the 20th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics for his paper “A Sub-Quadratic Exact Medoid Algorithm,” co-authored with Francois Fleuret of the Idiap Research Institute.
