Housing areas, towards a reversal tendency?

Prof. Emmanuel Rey of the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) has been invited to speak at the conference called "The detached house, on the way or opposite to sustainable landscapes?" which took place on 13th May 2011 at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette.

For several years, research focusing on sustainable development has led to some consensus on the challenges of the transformation of urban environment. In parallel to the regeneration of brownfield sites and to the creation of sustainable neighborhoods, countless individual suburban houses continue to be built every year.

Their methods are clearly in conflict with most principles of sustainability. In a demographic context marked by a change in the family structure and the emergence of a long life society, it is necessary to consider the evolution of this habitat type and analyze its possible inadequacy to the needs of future generations.

In his talk entitled "Housing areas, towards a reversal tendency?", Prof. Emmanuel Rey addressed the stakes inherent to this type of habitat by putting them in perspective with seeking long-run equilibrium for built environment and presented a certain number of research projects and realizations proposing alternatives on this subject.
